August 28, 2025 Draw (Northern Ontario Focus)
On August 28, the OINP resumed its Employer Job Offer draws after nearly a three‑month pause, issuing 348 targeted invitations for candidates with job offers in Northern Ontario under the Foreign Worker, International Student, and In‑Demand Skills streams.
Northern Ontario Previous Draws:
In contrast, Ontario’s first major draw of 2025 held June 3 and 6 was sweeping in scale. Over 3,700 ITAs were issued via 10 targeted draws. Within those, Northern Ontario alone received 973 invitations across all three streams:
-
Foreign Worker: 391
-
International Student: 493
-
In‑Demand Skills: 89 .
This draw (on August 28) came after a nearly three-month pause since early June, when Ontario issued one of the largest rounds of invitations in recent memory. By focusing on Northern Ontario in August, OINP has sent a strong message: economic growth outside major cities like Toronto and Ottawa is a key part of the province’s immigration strategy.

OINP Latest Draw Targeted Streams:
The August 28 draw covered the three sub-categories of the Employer Job Offer stream:
-
Foreign Worker Stream – for skilled workers with a permanent job offer in Ontario.
-
International Student Stream – for graduates from eligible Canadian institutions holding valid job offers.
-
In-Demand Skills Stream – for workers in essential sectors such as healthcare, construction, and agriculture.
By combining these categories into a Northern Ontario-focused draw, OINP created multiple entry points for both international graduates and experienced workers.
OINP Draw Benefits For Canadians
The August 28 OINP draw acts as a lifeline for TRs and work permit holders in Canada. It transforms temporary opportunities into permanent futures, especially for those working in Northern Ontario’s high-demand sectors. Here are two important takeaways:
-
More visibility for Northern Ontario applicants – While June’s draw was larger, many candidates were competing across regions. August’s dedicated slots give Northern Ontario applicants higher odds.
-
Policy alignment with labour shortages – Employers in Sudbury, Thunder Bay, and smaller towns often struggle to fill healthcare, trades, and service positions. By directing nearly 75% of all invitations to this region, OINP is directly addressing that gap.
Next Steps After Receiving ITA:
If you received an invitation:
-
Submit your application through the OINP e-Filing Portal within the prescribed time (usually 14–17 days).
-
Ensure employer forms are updated, and double-check supporting documents like job offer letters, work permits, and transcripts if applying as an international graduate.
If you did not receive an invitation:
-
Keep your Expression of Interest (EOI) profile active.
-
Align your application with in-demand occupations in healthcare, skilled trades, and essential services—sectors consistently prioritized by OINP.
