OINP Employer Job Offer Draws Update: August 28, 2025

August 28, 2025 Draw (Northern Ontario Focus)

On August 28, the OINP resumed its Employer Job Offer draws after nearly a three‑month pause, issuing 348 targeted invitations for candidates with job offers in Northern Ontario under the Foreign Worker, International Student, and In‑Demand Skills streams.

Northern Ontario Previous Draws:

In contrast, Ontario’s first major draw of 2025 held June 3 and 6 was sweeping in scale. Over 3,700 ITAs were issued via 10 targeted draws. Within those, Northern Ontario alone received 973 invitations across all three streams:

  • Foreign Worker: 391

  • International Student: 493

  • In‑Demand Skills: 89 .

This draw (on  August 28)  came after a nearly three-month pause since early June, when Ontario issued one of the largest rounds of invitations in recent memory. By focusing on Northern Ontario in August, OINP has sent a strong message: economic growth outside major cities like Toronto and Ottawa is a key part of the province’s immigration strategy.

OINP Latest Draw Targeted Streams:

The August 28 draw covered the three sub-categories of the Employer Job Offer stream:

  • Foreign Worker Stream – for skilled workers with a permanent job offer in Ontario.

  • International Student Stream – for graduates from eligible Canadian institutions holding valid job offers.

  • In-Demand Skills Stream – for workers in essential sectors such as healthcare, construction, and agriculture.

By combining these categories into a Northern Ontario-focused draw, OINP created multiple entry points for both international graduates and experienced workers.

OINP Draw Benefits For Canadians

The August 28 OINP draw acts as a lifeline for TRs and work permit holders in Canada. It transforms temporary opportunities into permanent futures, especially for those working in Northern Ontario’s high-demand sectors. Here are two important takeaways:

  1. More visibility for Northern Ontario applicants – While June’s draw was larger, many candidates were competing across regions. August’s dedicated slots give Northern Ontario applicants higher odds.

  2. Policy alignment with labour shortages – Employers in Sudbury, Thunder Bay, and smaller towns often struggle to fill healthcare, trades, and service positions. By directing nearly 75% of all invitations to this region, OINP is directly addressing that gap.

Next Steps After Receiving ITA:

If you received an invitation:

  • Submit your application through the OINP e-Filing Portal within the prescribed time (usually 14–17 days).

  • Ensure employer forms are updated, and double-check supporting documents like job offer letters, work permits, and transcripts if applying as an international graduate.

If you did not receive an invitation:

  • Keep your Expression of Interest (EOI) profile active.

  • Align your application with in-demand occupations in healthcare, skilled trades, and essential services—sectors consistently prioritized by OINP.

Why were there so many draws in June but fewer in August?

June’s draws marked the restart of OINP after a multi-month pause and spanned multiple streams and regions with over 3,700 ITAs. August‘s draw, limited to 468 invites, reflects a more calibrated approach focusing on specific regional and stream-based needs.

Did Northern Ontario get proportional invites in both draws?

Yes. In June, 973 invites were portioned to Northern Ontario across streams; in August, 348 invites were dedicated solely to Northern Ontario—proportionally similar focus but smaller volume

Should applicants prefer August over June?

Not necessarily—June offered more slots but perhaps more competition. August may offer more predictability in targeted regions. The best move is ensuring a strong score and job offer alignment, regardless of when the draw occurs.

Will Ontario continue these focused draws?

While nothing is certain, these back-to-back region-specific draws—and the underlying REDI and stream-target strategies—suggest Ontario is committed to ongoing regional engagement.

What’s next after an invitation?

Invited candidates must submit complete applications through the OINP e-Filing Portal (with updated employer form) within set timelines—e.g. 14–17 days depending on stream.
